Privacy

Nimbus has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. It needs a place to forecast, and that’s all it asks for.

Your location

If you allow it, Nimbus uses your device’s location to forecast where you are. Before anything leaves your device, the app rounds the location to a grid square about 25 km (16 miles) across, the same squares the forecasts come in. Your exact location is never sent anywhere.

The name of where you are (“Toronto”) and places you search for are looked up on your device with Apple Maps, under Apple’s privacy policy. Places you save stay on your devices.

Nimbus’s server

To get a forecast, the app asks Nimbus’s server, which runs on Cloudflare, for that grid square. The server keeps forecasts by grid square, not by person. Cloudflare keeps basic request logs, which include the grid square and your network address, for up to 7 days to keep the service running, and then deletes them.

The server fetches forecasts from Open-Meteo by grid square. Open-Meteo never sees your network address or anything about you.

Widgets and Apple Watch

Widgets and the watch app work the same way: they send a grid square and nothing else.

Children

Nimbus doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children.
